Isaiah
began in 2001 as the Saturday night Rock & Roll praise team for
Jubilee Christian Center in San Jose, California, under the name of
Holy Smoke. Jubilee is a 15,000 member Pentecostal church,
which features gospel-style worship led at the time by Ron Kenoly.
Shortly thereafter, members of the band also began helping out at
City Christian Church, San Francisco, a church plant partnership
between Jubilee and Phil Pringle’s original church in Australia.
During this time, the band began
ministering at drug and alcohol rehab groups as well as performing at
fairs and festivals. Later, the band also began its prison ministry,
with performances at Elmwood (Milpitas, CA), San Quentin
(Larkspur, CA), Santa Rita (Pleasanton, CA), and youth
correctional facilities including Camp Wilmont Sweeney (San
Leandro, CA), Hillcrest (San Mateo, CA), and others.
With personnel changes and the expansion
of its ministry focus, the band changed its name to “Isaiah”, and is no
longer associated with Jubilee or City Christian Church. The band now
consists of members from all around the San Francisco Bay Area,
representing churches from South San Jose and the Peninsula, to the East
Bay and Livermore.
Isaiah’s
primary focus continues to be recovery ministry, and the band regularly
performs at ministries around the Bay Area, including Higher Power
(Foster City, CA), R&R (Palo Alto, CA), The Bridge (Palo
Alto, CA), and many others. The band also continues to do prison
ministry, festivals, and church worship services, and occasionally
travels out of the Bay Area for special ministry events. |
